Specialised Electronic Waste & Hazardous Material Processing
Lighting
Our Specialised Lighting Waste Solution was Africa’s first licensed lighting recycling facility in 2014, and has successfully processed over 25 million lamps. We treat all categories of lighting waste, including fluorescent tubes, compact fluorescent lamps, high-intensity discharge systems, and light-emitting diodes, which are strictly banned from national landfills. Devices are fed into specialised crushing units operating under negative pressure to safely capture highly toxic mercury vapour. This advanced process cleanly separates glass and aluminium components for reuse while directing recovered luminophosphor powder into our custom LPX plant to isolate valuable rare earth elements securely.
Solar Panel (PV Module) Recycling
Our Solar PV Recycling Solution prioritises meticulous manual dismantling to safely recover valuable aluminium frames, copper wiring, and junction box components. To prevent bulk glass from entering landfills, EWaste Africa mills the recovered glass laminate into aggregate to manufacture high-strength interlocking eco-pavers. This production process avoids the environmental impacts of mining virgin river sand and stone. These innovative pavers carry the official Global GreenTag GBCSA LCARate Bronze certification, allowing commercial developments to successfully claim compliant green building credits under Green Star South Africa infrastructure ratings.
Screens
Our Flat-Screen and Monitor Solution treats liquid crystal display (LCD) and light-emitting diode (LED) television and computer monitors strictly prohibited from South African landfills. Our teams utilise precise manual dismantling to extract hazardous backlighting components safely before any mechanical processing occurs. This initial demanufacture stage isolates high-value, specialised fractions, including printed circuit boards, indium tin oxide (ITO), liquid crystals, PMMA, and polarising sheets for targeted downstream processing. The remaining structural casing is then further separated to cleanly divide ferrous metals, aluminium, and plastics for immediate recycling reuse.
Small Electrical Equipment
From kettles to vacuum cleaners, we treat small domestic appliances by manually dismantling the equipment and sorting the materials. This enables us to recover ferrous and non-ferrous metals, as well as high-grade plastics, for re-entry into the manufacturing sector.
Corporate ITAD & Secure Data Destruction
As a trusted partner for corporate ITAD (IT Asset Disposition), we process computers, servers, and phones with a strict focus on data security. After certified data destruction, e-waste is either routed for refurbishment or responsibly dismantled to harvest precious metals.
Cables
We utilise advanced stripping technologies to process insulated wiring and cables. This method efficiently separates the plastic from the valuable copper or aluminium core, preserving both material streams for high-quality recycling.
Batteries
We process a wide range of chemistries, including alkaline, NiMH, NiCd, and Lithium-ion types such as NMC and LFP. Our method involves testing and safe discharging, followed by comminution to break down the cells for the recovery of valuable raw materials.
Temperature Exchange Equipment
We responsibly treat fridges and air conditioners by first extracting hazardous refrigerant gases and oils. The units are then dismantled to recover metals and plastics without releasing hazardous substances into the atmosphere.
Large Electrical Equipment
We process large white goods like stoves and washing machines by manually dismantling the units to separate steel bodies from internal wiring and plastics. This enables the high-volume recovery of ferrous metals, ensuring that these bulk items are kept out of landfills.
Storage Solutions
Compliant WEEE Storage Solutions
We provide secure containment solutions for general electronic waste, aligning with both South African legislation and international WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) safety standards. Our lockable containers keep hazardous components dry and safe from unauthorised access to minimise environmental and fire risks.
Lighting Storage Solutions
We supply specialised containers designed to store waste lamps safely and prevent the accidental release of hazardous mercury vapour. Our solution includes lamp coffins and drum units, which ensure that tubes and bulbs remain intact and dry while stored on your site, protecting both your staff and the environment.
COLLECTION AND LOGISTICS
Safe, Compliant & Scalable Logistics
Transporting hazardous waste requires strict adherence to safety regulations. We manage a versatile logistics network that combines our own dedicated fleet with trusted strategic partners to ensure total national coverage.
This hybrid model gives us the flexibility to deploy the right vehicle for the job, ranging from agile 1-ton vehicles for quick local collections to large interlink trucks for bulk national haulage. We pride ourselves on our responsiveness and ability to handle urgent, last-minute requests while ensuring full legal compliance at every step of the journey.
